New build
This house was built in 1998 under the supervision of Mr Manir. This property was certainly built with an unconventional and innovative approach. This is evident in the fact that stones were sourced from a local family business named ‘The Hippo Home Quarry’. The stones were then prepared and shaped daily. All the window sills and lintels within the property were completed from natural stones. Furthermore, external to the property stones were utilised for the boundary work and steps, which were reclaimed stones from the Old Calderdale College. At the entrance of the building a window was positioned specifically to capture the famous Wainhouse tower. Given his exceptionally good and meticulous workmanship Mr Manir was awarded the Civil Trust Award by Halifax City Council. The architect appointed was John Thornton.
